A hot wire cutter slices expanded and extruded polystyrene with a thin wire heated by electric current, and it is the tool behind cosplay armor, architectural models, terrain and packaging inserts. The format divides the shelf: a handheld bow for freehand shapes, a table with a vertical wire for straight and angled cuts, and hot knives with interchangeable tips for grooves and engraving. Cutting depth is the declared distance between the wire and its frame, and it limits the thickness of a block. Heat control matters because a wire too cold drags and a wire too hot melts a wide channel; a continuous dial is easier to tune than a fixed setting.
