The best laser fume extractors for 2026

Engraving, cutting and soldering all put smoke into the air of a room, and an extractor pulls it through filters instead of sending it out of a window. Its specification is a filter description and an airflow figure. Airflow is published in cubic metres per hour, sometimes with a static pressure that says how well the fan copes with a long hose and a clogged filter — without it, the airflow is the best case. The filter stages are listed layer by layer: a pre-filter for large particles, a fine particulate stage, and activated carbon for gases and odours. Each stage is a consumable, and the price and availability of replacement filters is the running cost this shelf is really about. Hose diameter decides which enclosures and machines it connects to, and adapters are often extra. Noise in decibels matters in a room where someone works. Then the claims: a filter rated for wood smoke is not automatically rated for acrylic or PVC fumes, and some materials should not be laser-cut at all because of what they release.
