The best ASA and ABS filament for 2026

ABS and ASA make parts that survive heat — inside a car, near a motor, in the sun — and they are the filaments that turn an enclosure from optional to necessary. The diameter tolerance and net weight are published as on any spool. Recommended temperatures for nozzle and bed are higher than PLA or PETG, and a printer has to reach them comfortably. Warping is the usual failure: as a large part cools unevenly its corners lift and layers split, and a warm, still enclosure is the maker's standard advice. The difference between the two is UV resistance: ASA holds its colour and strength outdoors, ABS yellows and grows brittle, and a listing that says outdoor use should name ASA. Both release fumes with a noticeable smell while printing, and the maker's guidance on ventilation or filtration applies — an enclosure with an exhaust or filter is the usual answer. ABS also smooths with acetone vapour, which is a process with its own hazards. Then spool size and colour range.
