The Flashforge AD5X enclosure listing, bullet by bullet

Five bullets: a DIY project in which most parts are printed in PLA on the AD5X and the kit supplies acrylic panels and screws; a closed system for printing ABS, ASA and PC without warping; protection for children and pets and against draughts; acrylic panels that reduce noise; and illustrated instructions with STL files on the Flashforge wiki.

An enclosure built from prints

The printer makes most of its own enclosure. The kit ships only what a desktop printer cannot make — acrylic and fasteners. It keeps the price down and adds several hours of printing before the enclosure exists.

For ABS, ASA and PC

Warping comes from uneven cooling, and a closed box keeps the air around the part warm and still. That is the reason given for the kit, and it is the reason most enclosures are bought.

The AD5X page leaves out

Dimensions, ventilation, a door and a fire rating. For an enclosure intended for ABS, which gives off stronger fumes than PLA, the absence of any ventilation line is worth noting.

Availability

At the last look-up, the German, French and Spanish Amazon stores were asking roughly 49 €.

It is sold in the American and British Amazon stores as well, in their own currency, which the euro figures above leave out on purpose.

The Italian Amazon catalogue lists the product, yet no seller was offering it.
