The best honeycomb laser beds for 2026

A honeycomb bed lifts the workpiece off the surface below on a grid of thin metal cells, so that a cutting laser passes through the material without burning the table underneath, and smoke and heat escape from beneath the cut. The working area should cover the laser's travel, and a bed smaller than the machine limits it. The height of the bed raises the material, which changes the focus distance the laser was set for — the machine's focus has to be adjusted, and a bed tall enough to exceed the laser's focus range does not fit that machine. Cell size decides how well small parts are supported: small pieces can fall through large cells once cut. The frame and backing plate protect the surface under the bed, and a solid aluminium plate is the usual answer. Hold-down pins or magnets keep thin, warped material flat. Machine compatibility is named on the careful listings. The honeycomb reflects some beam energy and collects residue that can burn, so cleaning it follows the maker's advice, and a laser is never left cutting unattended.
