Soldering tips wear out and each shape suits a different kind of joint, so a set of good tips often improves soldering more than a new station. Iron fit comes first: tips follow a series tied to a handle — a bare tip over a separate heater, or a cartridge that combines tip, heater and sensor — and a tip from another series does not fit or heats poorly. The listing should name the station or series. Shape decides the job: a chisel tip moves heat into most through-hole joints, a conical tip reaches between fine pins, a bevel or hoof tip drags across rows of surface-mount pins, and a knife tip handles bridges. Size matters because a tip too small for a joint cannot deliver the heat, however high the temperature.
