A breadboard lets a circuit be built and changed without soldering: components and wires push into spring contacts connected in rows. The tie points count published on every board sets its size, and half-size and full-size boards follow common layouts. Power rails along the edges carry supply and ground; on some boards the rails are split halfway, which is a frequent cause of an unpowered half. Contact quality is the specification that separates good boards from poor ones — contacts that lose grip give intermittent faults that look like design errors — and the listing may name the contact material. An adhesive backing fixes the board to a base; boards that clip together extend a layout. Jumper wires come in types: male-to-male for breadboards, and male-to-female or female-to-female to connect boards with header pins.
