Resin is the liquid a resin printer cures layer by layer, and standard resins cover the models, miniatures and prototypes most people print. The first specification is the curing wavelength, published in nanometres — most consumer printers use 405 nm — and a resin has to match the printer's light source. Volume is sold by the bottle in grams or litres, and the two units do not convert directly because density differs between resins. The recommended exposure times are published for common printers, and they are starting points that a calibration print adjusts. Viscosity decides how quickly resin flows back under the plate, and a thick resin may need slower lifts or warming. The finish and colour affect detail: dark and grey pigments show fine surface texture more clearly than clear. Tough, flexible and "ABS-like" grades trade some detail for strength, and the listing should say what the resin is for rather than only what it resembles.
