The best FEP and release films for 2026

The release film is the clear sheet at the bottom of a resin vat: light passes through it to cure each layer, and the layer then peels away from it. It wears, scratches and punctures, and it is the most frequently replaced part of a resin printer. Sheet size has to cover the vat with enough margin to clamp, and a listing that names printer models is more useful than bare dimensions. Thickness is published in millimetres and affects how the film flexes during peel, which the maker's exposure settings assume. The material divides the shelf: classic FEP, nFEP and ACF films release with less force, which can reduce failed prints and change the lift settings that work. Pre-mounted frames save the fiddly job of tensioning a loose sheet evenly, and they fit only their own vat. Pack count matters because films are consumables. Then clarity, whether a protective layer must be peeled before use, and the tension the maker recommends.
