The best laser plywood for 2026

Plywood sold for lasers is chosen to cut and engrave cleanly, and it differs from builders' plywood in the parts that stop a beam. Thickness is published in millimetres, and it has to match what the laser can cut in a reasonable number of passes — a thin sheet engraves, a thick one may only cut on a powerful machine. Sheet size should fit the laser's bed, since cutting a sheet down first wastes material and time. Wood species — poplar, birch, basswood — changes colour, grain and hardness. The glue type matters more than species: laser-grade plywood uses a glue the beam passes through evenly, while construction glues leave uncut patches and more smoke. Flatness decides whether the whole sheet stays in focus; a warped sheet cuts at one corner and not another. Grade describes visible knots and patches on each face. Pack quantity sets the price per sheet. Cutting wood produces smoke that needs extraction, and a laser cutting wood is never left unattended.
