Heat transfer vinyl, or HTV, is cut on a plotter, weeded, and pressed onto fabric, where heat activates its adhesive. Every listing publishes a press temperature, a time and a pressure setting, and they differ between products — the maker's figures are the ones that apply, and a household iron reaches them less evenly than a press. The peel instruction says whether the carrier sheet comes off hot, warm or cold, and peeling at the wrong moment lifts the design. Compatible fabrics are stated: cotton, polyester and blends take most HTV, while nylon, stretch fabrics and some coated materials need a specific grade, and a fabric's own heat tolerance limits the press temperature.
