The best bed levelling probes for 2026

A levelling probe measures the height of the bed at a grid of points so that the printer can compensate for a surface that is not perfectly flat, and it replaces the paper-under-the-nozzle routine on printers that lack one. The probe type divides the shelf: a touch probe with a small deploying pin works on any surface, an inductive probe detects metal and works only on beds it can sense, and newer strain or eddy-current designs measure differently again. Repeatability is the figure that matters — how consistently the probe triggers at the same point — and it is published on the careful listings. Bed compatibility follows from the type, and a glass plate defeats an inductive probe. The mount has to fit the toolhead and sit at an offset the firmware is told about. Wiring uses a particular connector and, on some boards, a stated voltage, and a probe wired to the wrong pin can damage the board.
