Brother SP1 sublimation printer, up to 215 × 355 mm review

A compact desktop sublimation printer sold under Brother’s own name, printing up to 215 × 355 mm with vivid and Eco modes, supplied with sublimation inks and paper, and described in three short bullets.

The bottom line A maker-built sublimation printer with a clear maximum print size and two modes. Three bullets leave out everything about running it — connection, ink system, ink cost, colour profiles — and those have to come from Brother.

The Brother SP1 listing, bullet by bullet

Three bullets: sublimation prints up to 215 × 355 mm for textiles, gifts and decoration; a compact desktop design with fast print speeds and selectable vivid or Eco modes; and sublimation inks and paper included to start right away on clothing, homeware and accessories.

Built for sublimation, not converted

The SP1 is sold under Brother’s name as a sublimation printer. Compared with a converted inkjet, the practical difference is that ink, drivers and support can come from the same maker, rather than from a converter working on someone else’s machine.

215 × 355 mm on the SP1

355 mm is longer than an A4 sheet, which suits a full T-shirt front or a tall tumbler wrap. The width, 215 mm, stays close to A4.

What three bullets cannot cover

How it connects, how the ink is supplied and what it costs to refill, and whether colour profiles are provided. For a printer bought to produce goods, these are ownership questions rather than details.
