The bed lifts the material by its thickness plus any frame. Every job needs the laser focused on the new surface. Open-frame lasers adjust focus or height; enclosed machines have a fixed clearance that the bed and material must fit within.
Honeycomb size and working area
A bed that covers the working area keeps it all usable. A smaller bed limits where material can sit. Cell size decides how well small parts are supported once cut.
Backing plate and hold-downs
A backing plate protects the table from the beam. Hold-down pins or magnets keep thin, warped material flat, which keeps focus even.
