MYNT3D Super 3D Pen for ABS and PLA review

A slim 1.75 mm pen for ABS and PLA with a stepless speed slider and an ultrasonically sealed nozzle, described in five short bullets that give no temperature and no safety provision.

The bottom line The shortest of the four pen listings reviewed here, and the most open on filament: standard 1.75 mm ABS and PLA with a speed slider. It is also the least forthcoming on heat and safety, which sits badly beside a claim that it suits children.

The Super 3D Pen listing, bullet by bullet

Five short bullets: turning ordinary drawings into 3D artworks; a stepless speed slider for controlling material flow while drawing; an ultrasonically sealed nozzle, new for 2019, described as nearly clog-proof; a pen ideal for children, artists and engineers of all ages; and a kit with three colours of PLA, an AC adapter and a slim, ergonomic pen.

Standard filament

1.75 mm ABS and PLA is the most practical line on the page. Refills are easy to find, and colours are not limited to one maker’s range.

Where the MYNT3D listing goes quiet

No temperature is given for a pen melting ABS and PLA, and no safety provision is described. The fourth bullet nonetheless calls it ideal for children. This page reports the claim and leaves the instructions and supervision to decide.

A dated description

The third bullet calls the nozzle new for 2019. That is the only date on the page, and it tells a buyer the description has not been updated recently rather than anything about the product in the box.

Availability

At the last look-up, the German, French and Italian Amazon stores were asking 36 € to 50 €.

It is sold in the American and British Amazon stores as well, in their own currency, which the euro figures above leave out on purpose.

The asking price on the Spanish Amazon store ran past 1.6× the lowest country’s. A gap that size points to goods shipped in from abroad rather than a local seller, so that offer is left out of the figures above.

Every figure here is Keepa’s reading on the date this page was last updated. Stock and prices can change at any time.

  • No safety provision described, although the listing calls it ideal for children
  • Very short bullets, one of which dates the nozzle design to 2019
